Women's Fashion in 2008 - That's a Wrap

70's inspired clothing is really in this season which makes the wrap dress the perfect addition to your closet. Once extremely popular when they hit the runways in the early 70's they've been laying dormant close to 30 years making the occasional appearance in the early 90's. Lucky for you 2008 has fully welcomed this easy to wear dress and you should be able to find one you love at your favorite clothing store.

Why You'll Love the Wrap

For women who are slightly curvier or on the fuller side the wrap dress was definitely made with you in mind. While these dresses look great on almost any body type it's the full breasted curvy hip women out there who really benefit from this style. It lifts, separates and breaks up the body in such a way that your curves become your number one asset. One of the biggest benefits of this dress is the hour glass appearance it gives those who wear it. Worn the right way this dress can mask bellies while playing up hips and flatter that junk in your trunk without flattening it out. Gone are the days when stick thin was in and more and more women are learning the it's the hips and the breast that make a women who she is. This dresses embraces the woman.

What if I'm super thin you say? Have no fear you can wear this dress just as proudly as your thicker sisters. The art of mastering the wrap lies within knowing and understanding what works with your body type. Those of you who are super thin or have smaller breast can wear wrap dresses that have adjustable ties and are less ruffly up top. In keeping with the rule of less is more, your goal is to find a wrap dress that gives you a little extra up top by limiting the amount of fabric used in your chest area. If you can't find one that fits perfectly you can always rely on the good ol' push up bra for some assistance in pulling of this sassy fashion.

How to Pull of the Wrap

Before you choose a wrap it's important to figure out what body type you are. Different wraps will look good on different body types. Full figured women will look good with fuller skirts where as small framed women will need dresses that aren't as full. Since the wrap dress has the tendency to pick up panty lines which can draw attention to your tummy, be sure to choose the right underwear. If you are concerned about your stomach area look for some quality shape wear to really look terrific in this dress. Patterns are very popular when it comes to wrap dresses but be careful when choosing one. You need to keep your body type in mind and know what works best with it. For fuller figured women, choose diagonal or vertical patterns and stay away from the tiny patterns that can make you look larger than you really are. Wrap dresses are fun and easy to accessorize for any occasion so be creative when it comes to personalizing yours. Experiment with different belts, bracelets, shoes, and tights or leggings to really make it your own.

Wrap Skirt - A Perfect High-Low Mix

While waiting in a queue at the Apparel Store, I could not stop staring at the watch on the wrist of this beautiful woman in front of me. It was Rolex President in gold with diamonds. Next to it was a David Yurman gold cuff bracelet. Then I noticed her clothes. To my surprise, her clothes were so simple, casual and unbranded. She wore a floral blouse, a wrap skirt and sandals. An unusual blend and a very interesting mix of high & low and I am here thinking of her and talking about her.

In the past several decades we have lived through high brands, low brands & no brands. We have learned to move easily between the high & the low and accept what we need in a more practical sense. Our taste is no longer confined to a particular class, culture, brand or price. We are free and we have learned to make our own style with no rules - no boarders. We made fashion more flexible. We realized that we are not for the fashion but the fashion is for us. We created new styles and inspired the designers to think. It is no longer the designers telling us how to dress. I felt that when I looked at the woman in the stores. She is free to choose what she wants and still can leave an impression.

I was not only surprised but curious to know where could have she bought her skirts from. It was a Silk Wrap Skirt - knee length. The simplicity of the Wrap skirt was making her more attractive and made a distinct difference in her appearance. I won't be surprised if she had bought her floral top and the wrap skirt from a push cart outside a shopping mall. The high-low mix is now our social reflection. No longer one replaces the other - they go together. We all know about the high fashion - expensive brands but we know very little about the low fashion - low value or no brand fashion. Wrap Skirt is one such fashion which maintains a very low profile but very consistent.

It is not for selected few but for all women - anyone - anytime - anywhere. It makes a woman incredibly stylish and smart. The high-low mix is more about creativity in a woman. A little tough-girl look is what you need to stop looking too sweet or too pretty. Add a chain, belt or a striking ear rings to create a style that demands a second look. You can create your own style with a multiwear wrap skirt which can be worn in 100 different ways. Its sizzling colors and texture would speak for itself. It is double layered and can be worn on both sides. Each piece of wrap skit is uniquely hand made and there can not be 2 same pieces. Your wardrobe should be the reflection of your personality, your taste and your creativity. Mix them well - blend them - re-mix them and create your unique style and make the designers follow you

Dressing Gowns Inspire the Hottest 2010 Red Carpet Looks

With most of the 2010 award ceremonies behind us it is a good time to reflect on the hot looks that grabbed our attention and held it this year.

On the star-studded red carpets of France, the United Kingdom and the United States in 2010 one cannot help but observe the number of stunning gowns that were worn by celebrities remarkably resembling the style of a dressing gown.

To wear a dress that resembles a dressing gown is certainly no bad thing in my mind, the style of a floor length wrap around dress is unquestionably glamorous. The popularity of the wrap dress, is in part due to its effortless ease and comfort of wear but also because of the flattering effect that a wrap has on the many varied female forms, hugging a woman's curves perfectly regardless of shape and size.

A wrap style is a dress with a front closure that is created by literally wrapping one side across the other and either buttoning or tying the two into a knot or bow. A wrap highlights the feminine form yet flatters every figure. The wrap dress was a creation of fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg who invented the style in 1976. The wrap is one of the few fashion sensations that has stood the test of time still being favoured today by many fashion-conscious women around the world.

Several stars including Jennifer Lopez, Mark Kate Olsen and Nicole Richey were spotted wearing the most fashionable long sleeve wraparound maxi dresses. Long, floor or ankle-length, form-fitting dresses that looked remarkably similar to the style of a wraparound dressing gown and we applaud the look. So both the dressing gown and the wrap dress has stood the test of time, continuing to be favoured by the stars of today.

Wrap Dress

One of the most versatile and timeless style that fits most body types is the wrap dress. It crisscrosses over the bust, with the skirt falling gently below. The style is such that it skillfully separates, raises the bust and creates the illusion of an hour glass figure. This is just as true for wrap styles tops as it is for dresses.

‧ It's one of the best styles or rather the best style to be worn by women with heavy bust line. It takes the attention away from the bust giving it a more proportionate look.

‧ If you are on the larger side avoid horizontal lines and big prints. Instead opt for vertical or diagonal lines and small prints to compliment your frame.

‧ If you can carry the look, the wrap style can also be worn with a classy tee, or a turtle neck underneath. The wrap dress or top is also great for pregnant women who want to stay comfortable and stylish.

‧ For a good waist definition, choose a wrap style with ruching effect. In addition, it is a comfortable outfit for travelling as it hardly requires ironing.

‧ The wrap dress can be dressed up or down to create various looks. Team it with a classic bag and a chic pair of pumps for a formal look or wear it with opaque tights (or leggings ) for a more casual look.

‧ Accessorize it with a wide belt, chunky wedge shoes, a big classic tote bad and don't forget your shades.

Finding the Best Prom Dress For an Hourglass Figure - Essential Tips

If you have an hourglass figure, then you are extremely lucky because you can wear almost anything without having to think about looking excessively fat or extremely thin. But then, having an hourglass figure is always not considered a boon. Most of the times you are left confused about what to wear for a particular occasion. The confusion continues and sometimes you might as well want to give up on certain occasions. But every occasion is not a prom night either. This event is special and so you should dress at your best.

Being the first-most formal affair of your life, you have all the rights to look your best. And, you must choose your dress extra carefully on this occasion. However, it is important to note that certain dresses will produce certain effects and so if you want to accentuate a particular part of your body and not stress much on the others, then it will be wise to choose your dress accordingly.

If you have well-toned and narrow waists then try a wrap-dress. As the name suggests, you are required to wrap the dress around yourself. These dresses are divided vertically along the mid-section and the halves are tied tightly around the waist. Thus, it is ideal for showing off your narrow waistlines. Moreover, with your waist appearing narrower, your bust and hip region will look more voluptuous and make every head at the prom turn towards you. Wrap dresses come in varied lengths, the most popular being the knee-length and ankle-length dresses. Considering that you want to dance at the prom, it might not be a good idea to go for ankle-length wrap dresses.

You can also try the classic prom dress, also known as a princess gown. Nothing can beat the elegance of a princess gown when it comes to choosing your prom dress. Being blessed with an hourglass figure you can either choose to wear a high neckline dress or a one with a plunging neckline. You might as well purchase dresses, which are essentially made of net or settle for a simple one made of satin. Wearing an off-shoulder dress is also a good idea if you have a voluptuous bust line. For a less dramatic look, consider buying a princess gown that does not come with excessive padding to avoid pumped look.

But if wrap-dress or princess gown is not your idea of a prom dress, then you can always go for a simple Barbie-dress. They look smart and are perfect for showing off a well-toned body. Again, the length of the dress is for you to decide. Both knee-length dresses and ankle-length dresses look great on hourglass figures and are guaranteed to shower you with lavish compliments. However, if you are planning to buy ankle-length Barbie dresses, make sure they have a long slit at the base because small slits can interfere with various prom activities like dancing.

You are blessed with a good figure. So, why not complement it further with a dress that grabs eyeballs like never before.
