What Body Shape Are You? And How Should You Dress to Flatter Your Shape?

The Pear shape

Smaller on top and wider on the bottom Ultimate Goal: To create a sense of balance

Recommendations: Wear Boat-neck and off the shoulder tops to balance the wideness of your hips Wear dark colors on the bottom, taking advantage of its slimming effect No side pockets and pleats on pants No drawstring pants Upper body should be the focus, so have fun and add colour to tops. Experiment with necklaces and earrings because they'll attract attention up top. Add mid-length or calf-length A line skirts to your wardrobe

Column

Tall and Slender Ultimate Goal: To create proportions that keep you from looking too willowy.

Recommendations: Choose Longer tops You need long skirts; your height will allow you to look graceful. No super short minis. No pants that have a very flared leg, it looks off balanced for column shapes. Lots of layers. Columns can handle the extra depth; it adds style and dimension to the look. Shirts with big collars and cuffs are very flattering! You can wear large prints.

Hourglass

Curvaceous with a full bust, small waist, full bottom Ultimate Goal: Some might accuse hourglass of dressing sexy when they are not even trying and hourglass have the most sought-after body in history. So embrace those curves in a classy manner!

Recommendations: Fitted tops that pinch in at the waist. Avoid full or blousy tops. The best style for an hourglass is a wrap dress . The wrap will highlight the waist and show off your legs. Wear hipster pants with a flared leg that will minimize hip area and balance your curves. Make sure the top doesn't stop at a point where the hips are the fullest. Hourglass's best styles are fitted tops and dresses with a bias cut with stretchy fabrics Stretchy fabrics are the best but not too tight! Wear solid colors.

Apple Figure

Rounded figure, fuller bust and midsection, heavier arms and shapely lower legs Ultimate goal: To create longer lines where none exist

Recommendations: Try a v-neck with an empire (high) waistline Opt for flowing fabrics like silk, rayon, gauzy cottons. Wear stretchy fitted tanks underneath to add support and hide any lumps or bumps. When feeling adventurous, go for a slightly larger pattern on tops and dresses, but don't over do it. No cargo pants or pockets on the side Pants shouldn't taper to be narrow at the bottom of the leg! Steer clear or wrap tops and halter dresses!

Rectangle

Shoulder, waist, and hips all the same width, very straight up and down Ultimate Goal: To create and accentuate a waistline that will give you the appearance of curves.

Recommendations: Belts are the go for you! Go straight for the dresses and clothes that gather or tie at the waist Try corset tops; they pinch the middle giving the look of a curvier figure. No very low-rise pants Rectangle wants a slightly higher waist, to give the appearance of a waist, empire line is good. Drawstring pants are great for rectangle shapes! Opt for flowing fabrics and soft ruffles A-line hemlines look good on you. Fitted tops and jackets, skirts with a higher waistline.

Inverted Triangle

A large bust with narrow hips Ultimate Goal: To draw attention to the lower body and create the look of equal proportions.

Recommendations: Vivid colors and prints for the bottom half. Pleated skirts add volume Create the illusion of a smaller bust with a deeper neckline V-neck and scoop necks are great for drawing attention away from shoulders and bust! But not boat-necks, horizontal stripes or any intense pattern.
